X-Cart to Pinnacle Cart MigrationX-Cart used to be the go-to shopping cart when building a new e-commerce site.  I personally built hundreds of sites with it, and was the moderator of their forums for years (check out username: balinor).  While I was never thrilled with the bugs and constant patching, the cart was open source and we could basically build whatever we wanted with it.  The third party vendor community was robust, and companies like SafetyNetWeb and AlteredCart provided some fantastic mods.  Sadly, those days are long gone.

As any of you still on the platform probably know, X-Cart has become a relic.  The forums are a ghost town, the mod vendors have closed up shop and moved to greener pastures, and the new version of X-Cart is a shell of the old one.  So what can you do after spending tons of time and money building your site on X-Cart?  That’s where we come in.

Pinnacle Cart is WAY better than X-Cart

We found Pinnacle Cart when looking for a replacement for X-Cart, and haven’t looked back.  We’ve migrated over 75 clients from X-Cart and other platforms, and have re-created many of the popular add-ons from X-Cart. Pinnacle Cart has an extremely rich feature set, with most of the features built in that required add-ons in X-Cart.  On top of that, Pinnacle Cart is PA-DSS compliant, so you don’t have to worry about clunky band-aids like X-Payments.  For those of you who like to dabble in the code, you’ll be happy to know that Pinnacle Cart uses a Smarty-based template system, so the code will look VERY familiar!  As an extra added bonus,  no more security and USPS patches, woo hoo!

So how does it work?

First, we’ll get you set up on our PCI Compliant, Cloud-based server with a new hosting account, and a fresh install of Pinnacle Cart.  For those of you who remember Emerson from EWD hosting, our server is hosted at his current company, Total Server Solutions. Firewall, hourly backups, unlimited data/disc space – all the bells and whistles.  If you already have your own hosting account, we can also install Pinnacle Cart there.  It just needs to be PCI Compliant and running PHP 5.6 or higher.

Next, we’ll migrate your products, categories and text pages across so that you can see how the site is looking with your real data and make any edits you wish. Many of our clients like to use this process as a time to clean up their products and remove old, outdated items.

We’ll then either copy your existing design over to Pinnacle Cart, or one of our designers can create a modern, responsive template for you.

If you have any custom functionality or features on your old X-Cart, we’ll install the appropriate add-ons or custom develop anything you need.

The final step is to migrate your customers and orders.  We don’t want to miss any, so we recommend closing down ordering on your X-Cart site.  The customer/order migration usually takes less than 2 hours.  All of your customer and order data will migrate except for passwords, which your customers can easily reset the first time they log in.  Your SEO urls can remain the same, so no need for any redirects, and we can also set your site to https as Google now requires.

How long does it take?

We’ve done migrations in as little as 2 weeks, but it can take up to 6 depending on how complex your design is, if we are designing a new template, or if you require custom functionality.

How much does it cost?

Ah, the most important question of all!  It is tough to provide an exact cost as each store is different.  If we are just migrating data to a stock Pinnacle Cart template, it would be under $1000.  If we are adding a custom design, custom functionality or a bunch of add-on modules, the cost will obviously be more.  Most migrations fall in the $2000 to $4000 range.

Your Pinnacle Cart license is $25/month, which gives you access to upgrades and support.  We cover the initial license cost for you, which is $1495 if you purchase it directly from Pinnacle.

Hosting with us is $40/month, and the first 3 months are free.  We bill annually in January, as that saves us all the headache and fees of monthly billing.

You will have access to all of our add-on modules and customizations, and we’ll throw in the Contact Form and Front Page Slideshow for free.  You also have priority access to custom development.  That means that if you have a project you would like us to create, you get bumped up in the queue ahead of any new clients we take on.
