Here it is October already...leaves are changing and everyone is gearing up for the holiday shopping season! Quite a few new projects this month including an interior contractor, a lingerie site, a blog for an e-commerce site, and a data storage products site.

On a security note, we have noticed a huge increase in hacking of X-Cart sites of late. Most are due to simple neglect in securing the site properly. There is a great thread in the X-Cart forums on how to secure an X-Cart site. Taking these simple steps will all but eliminate any vulnerabilities in X-Cart, but they only work if you take the time to implement them!

You should also make sure to backup your entire site daily. This means copying both the files themselves and the database. Good hosting companies will offer a dedicated backup server, but not many will back up your data daily (like we do), so it always pays to make backups yourself. We are currently re-creating thousands of dollars worth of customizations for two different clients, both of whom were with a hosting company that didn't make backups.
